In response to the unprecedented financial and human challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, leading figures representing the broad spectrum of the Isle of Man community have joined forces to launch a brand new community initiative, the Manx Solidarity Fund. Additionally the Manx Solidarity Fund has joined forces with the Isle of Man Coronavirus Community Support ("IOMCCS") team, with IOMCCS rebranding to Helpout.im
The Manx Solidarity Fund, an Isle of Man-registered Charitable Trust, is seeking to generate donations to allocate to those individuals, businesses and organisations that the Fund’s Trustees identify as being most in need, and which will serve as a community back-stop to help support the Island’s economy as a whole. The Isle of Man’s Lieutenant Governor, Sir Richard Gozney KCMG, CVO, has agreed to be its patron.
Given the urgency of the situation that many parts of the local community are experiencing at present, it is anticipated that there will be a high volume of applicants.
A robust application process is being put into place with the aim of delivering much-needed support to successful applicants from the end of April 2020. Those wishing to register their interest to receive assistance can do so via the website.

In order to ensure a comprehensive response to the impact of Covid-19 on the community the Manx Solidarity Fund and the Isle of Man Coronavirus Community Support (IOMCCS) team have joined forces. IOMCCS is rebranding to Helpout.im and provides a database of individuals and organisations who are willing to donate their time and skills to help those most in need.
Any Isle of Man residents, or those who currently volunteer in other capacities who have found themselves unable to perform their usual duties, can register now by email at via the website www.helpout.im
The Helpout.im portal will be pairing volunteers with causes and community needs as and when it finds a match. This could involve anything from dog-walking and shopping, to the provision of remote business services such as accountancy and marketing, or the loan of relevant equipment which will assist public services.
Local businessman Paul Hotchkiss is spokesperson for the team behind the launch of the Manx Solidarity Fund. Paul said:
‘The global crisis brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic presents the most serious challenge to economy, our way of life and our nation’s health since the Second World War. With Manx roots and having been part of the Isle of Man’s business community for some 35 years, I am acutely aware of the close networks and expertise within this community that have enabled us to become a successful, respected economy.
‘The Manx Solidarity Fund is making full use of these attributes and the team behind it includes highly-respected figures from across our community. We are very grateful for the support received to date from the Isle of Man Government within areas such as the General Registry and the Attorney General’s Chambers. This demonstrates the community-wide commitment to helping our Island’s businesses, charities and individuals at this time of great need.’
The initiatives have also been backed by leading TT rider and founder/Chief Executive of Coffee Mann, Conor Cummins.
In a specially filmed contribution in support of the initiatives, Conor said:
‘The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected the health and wellbeing of our community but also our schools, our businesses and our economy. Many people and organisations are now facing social and financial hardship as a result.
‘This pandemic impacts all of us. However the challenge that it presents to us is also bringing the very best out of our local community. We want the Manx Solidarity Fund and helpout.im to mitigate the impact on the Island of this terrible pandemic as far as possible. We are committed to supporting those most in need and we will be bound by our Island’s motto, “whichever way you throw us, we shall stand”.’

Trustees of the Manx Solidarity Fund
The initial trustee of the Fund is Peregrine Offshore Services Ltd, an independent corporate and trust services provider located on the Isle of Man, which is regulated by the Financial Service Authority.
Directors of the Trustee are:
Basil enjoys being active in the Isle of Man community; he is President of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association and has also served as treasurer for several charities, associations and sports clubs. Basil has a commerce degree and is a Chartered Accountant. He has also held the post of Chairman of the Manx Lottery Trust, is a member of the Noble’s Hospital League of Friends and is a past President of the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann.
Martin has worked in the Island’s finance industry for the entirety of his career, originally starting out with the Isle of Man Government then moving into the private sector some years later. He also acts as Chairman of his lifelong cycling club, the Manx Viking Wheelers and hosts the M Word podcast.
The following individuals will shortly be joining the Board of Trustees:
Allen is Captain of the Parish of German. Allen has given valuable service to the community in German through his work with many different organisations, most notably with the RNLI in Peel where he serves as Lifeboat Operations Manager.
He completed degrees in business administration before joining the family building materials firm Corletts, established in 1947, where is now Managing Director.
Graham decided whilst in jail in 2005 to turn his life around, putting all his energy into moving forward. Since 2006 Graham has been involved in the design and delivery of various social initiatives both on and off the Isle of Man. He is director of Manx charity Quing, dedicated to providing opportunities for people with life challenges that significantly impact on their self-worth and well-being. He has a Masters degree from the University of East Anglia and is currently busy with his PhD.
Graham is a keen gardener, walker and white water kayaker, and is a Rushen Parish Commissioner. Graham balances his hectic life with mindfulness and meditation and is part of the clerking team of the local Quaker Meeting.
Charles Fargher MBE, JP
Charles is Captain of the Parish of Marown. Charles has retired from a career in accounting in KPMG, and has been a Trustee for many Manx Trusts, including the Children’s Centre. He was a director and chairman of Manx Radio until he retired in 2004.
He is also Chairman of Manx Blind Welfare Society and a Trustee of the Manx Agricultural Benefit Trust.
Carol Glover, Coaches and Mentors, Leaders, Founders, Boards and Teams. She holds a Business Degree, ILM7 Executive Coaching/Mentoring plus accredited Senior Coach with European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
She’s worked to Board level in British retailing including roles, at IOM Enterprises, parent of Shoprite. She knows the dynamics of the Islands communities well.
As a Director of Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce she led on an “entrepreneur development initiative” that has widened focus, membership and representation. She is a passionate supporter of local businesses.
A former Chair of Manx Gateway Drama Group and a committee member of Breast Cancer Now (IOM).
In her spare time, she mentors young founders and start-ups, via her “Maverick Maker” business, reads and explores the Manx countryside.
An experienced multilingual qualified accountant who has worked as a managing director, finance director, company secretary, MLRO and DO, with a successful career in California, Luxembourg, Sweden and the Isle of Man, both in practice and in industry. She was awarded "Isle of Man Business Person of the Year" in 2015, making Jennifer the first woman to win this award. She was also awarded "International Director of the Year" by the Institute of Directors, Isle of Man Branch, in 2016. Appointed Chairman of the Institute of Directors, Isle of Man Branch, in 2017.
Peter is active in the community as Chairperson of the Willaston Community Association, and in trade union activities as Deputy Secretary of the Manx TUC. He is also active within UNITE and is a member of the Labour Party. Peter is a volunteer with the Douglas RNLI lifeboats.
