Meet the Team - Working from Home – Peregrine Accounts team

While we face working from home for the foreseeable future, we chat to our staff to find out how they are finding the reality of working from home. This week we talk to the Accounts Team who share their experiences!

Nick

How are you finding working from home?

Very different! The days are passing really quickly - it feels like I’m rarely off the phone.

Benefits of working from home?

It’s great being around my wife and daughter more of the time and seeing what they do during the day.  Lunches also tend to be of a higher quality than the usual soup in a cup at the office!

Negatives of working from home?

I’m tending to work longer hours and I miss the social interaction with my team and the wider firm. I also find answering simple queries can’t always resolved as quickly as they perhaps would do when we are all in the office.

How are you communicating with your team?

We have regular team chats and we use a mixture video and voice calls and chat functions.

Are you doing anything fun to keep healthy during this time?

Teaching my daughter how to blow raspberries – it’s hilarious.

Any tips of keeping your motivation while working from home?

Just remember how fortunate we are to be able to do so when so many others can’t.

Jamie

How are you finding working from home?

Good! As a fan of technology I have tried to embrace the challenges we are facing and I think we are fortunate that we can operate remotely as a business.

Benefits of working from home?

First of all, it’s certainly easier to practice social distancing! I enjoy that every day is a dress down day – it’s a lot more comfortable than wearing a shirt and suit. And of course, the daily commute is easier!

Negatives of working from home?

When working remotely I miss the social side to office life. I still have regular contact with the team, but it is not quite the same  (I also miss the tea rounds!).

How are you communicating with your team?

We communicate regularly – we use MS Teams meetings three times a day, other video conferencing facilities, email and also have normal phone calls.

Are you doing anything fun to keep healthy during this time?

With two young daughters most of my lunchtimes are currently spent being chased around the garden, so I suppose I could class that as exercise!

Any tips of keeping your motivation while working from home?

Try and keep a routine, remember to regular breaks and keep in regular contact with your colleagues – regardless of where we are working it is nice to know we are not alone.

Jess

How are you finding working from home?

I have more time after work and I’m using my lunch time to get things done.

Benefits of working from home?

I’m managing to get jobs done that don’t get done while I’m at work. I’m enjoying seeing my dog, Roxy, all day - she’s going to be so lonely when we go back to work!

Negatives of working from home?

I’m really missing my colleagues and it’s harder keeping up to date with what everyone is working on

How are you communicating with your team?

We have team chats 3 times a day and we also use What’sApp for messages/calls.

Are you doing anything fun to keep healthy during this time?

I’m attempting running with Roxy!

Any tips of keeping your motivation while working from home?

Trying to take breaks and get fresh air and sunshine!

Rich

How are you finding working from home?

I’m enjoying the freedom that working from home allows, and my dog, Kevin, is loving having the company during the day.

Benefits of working from home?

It’s definitely cut down on the time I spend ironing, or avoiding ironing. The morning commute is much easier and listening to podcasts/music has definitely increased my productivity.

Negatives of working from home?

It can be quite lonely on occasion, but zoom calls helps a lot with that. The lack of office cleaner is a definite negative.

How are you communicating with your team?

Zoom calls at least twice a day, emails of course and Microsoft team chat have all been incredibly helpful in keeping a line of communication open.

Are you doing anything fun to keep healthy during this time?

Walking my dog, the lack of a commute has meant I can give him a long walk in the morning and we can both relax for the rest of the day, until he has a massive burst of energy just before bed.

Any tips of keeping your motivation while working from home?

Taking short breaks every now and again to get up and move is a must for keeping focussed. Having no one else to chat with means that’s you never really look away from your screens. I find if I don’t take a couple of minutes here and there to make a drink or a good stretch means I struggle in the late afternoon.

Gaby

How are you finding working from home?

Actually, I enjoy it. Even though sometimes I find it a bit lonely. I miss working with my team.

Benefits of working from home?

I get to avoid the morning traffic, I can wake up later than usual, there’s no need to put make up on and I save time in the morning wondering what to wear!

Negatives of working from home?

Some days you feel less productive, it’s also a lot quieter than working in a busy office environment.

How are you communicating with your team?

We chat via Teams – we have 3 calls every day, which makes time go a lot faster and we have a good laugh together.

Are you doing anything fun to keep healthy during this time?

I like going for a walk with my husband and I also enjoy doing yoga and Pilates at home.

Any tips of keeping your motivation while working from home?

Always make a to do list for the day before you start work and try and work through it before the end of the working day.

Ben

How are you finding working from home?

It’s absolutely fine, as long as you’re kept busy. Which I am.

Benefits of working from home?

I get to listen to Music or podcasts all day which helps me get through my work/the day – I focus more.

Negatives of working from home?

I guess the novelty of being at home goes quickly – being in stuck in one place without others and not being able to see people is not ideal!

How are you communicating with your team?

We’ve been using Teams, Zoom and What’sApp to keep in contact every day.

Are you doing anything fun to keep healthy during this time?

I’ve been working out and playing Animal Crossing.

Any tips of keeping your motivation while working from home?

For me, you’ve just got to tell yourself it’s like any other normal work day. That, and listening to music.
