I joined Peregrine in 1997 after moving to the Isle of Man from South Africa with my wife and two children. I manage a portfolio of clients in a number of different industries working closely with my clients and my colleagues in Burleigh Manor. Outside of work I enjoy playing golf and cycling, as well as watching sport especially travelling to see Liverpool play at Anfield. I am a member of a number of Charities which support the Manx Community.
How long have you worked at Peregrine?
I have been working at Peregrine since 1997 and am one of the four directors. I spend most of my time working with clients to grow their businesses. I have worked with all size businesses from start up to established companies in a number of sectors. As trustees, we look after the assets of a number of trusts working closely with the appointed advisors. I spend a lot of time building relationships with clients and advisors.
Why did you choose your career path?
I chose to become a Chartered Accountant after reviewing the lists of directors in financial accounts of the top companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange when I was 14 years old. I realised that the most popular qualification was Chartered Accountant and I realised that this qualification could open doors to any career and sector of ones choice. I am so glad that I did qualify as a CA as it has opened so many doors and ultimately led me to the Isle of Man and to Peregrine.
If you weren’t doing your current job, what would be your dream job?
I love sport, travelling and photography, and would love to combine these by travelling to all the major sports events around the world capturing iconic moments of sporting history whilst running a sports management company.
What do you love most about your job?
I love meeting and working with Entrepreneurs. It is so motivating speaking to business people who have started their own businesses and faced various challenges getting to where they are today. It is also interesting to meet advisors from around the world who face similar challenges that we do and understand how they have solved these problems.
Now we’re back in the office, how did you find working from home?
I loved working at home. Over the past 20 years I have spent a lot of time travelling or in various meetings. Until I started working from home during lockdown, I’d never really appreciated being at home. I have found working at home gave me so much more time which was mainly caused by not having to commute from Maughold to Douglas each day.
What do you love most about working at Peregrine?
We are an independent company and are in control of our own destiny. We have a great team of likeminded individuals who enjoy each other’s company in an environment where we work hard looking after our clients while having fun.
How are you working differently due to Covid-19?
Due to the lack of travel and face to face meetings I have found that I am doing more online calls with colleagues and clients which has been fantastic. Luckily we had already adapted our systems in such a way that we could work from anywhere and so it was a seamless transition to working from home.
How are you supporting your clients through Covid-19? How are they finding it?
Our team have been working closely with our clients to ensure that their affairs are well looked after. Our clients have been affected in many different ways. Some are going through difficult times while others are biding their time to take advantage of new opportunities.
What has been your proudest career moment?
I do not like looking backwards but becoming a director at Peregrine has opened up so many opportunities for me and my family for which I will always be grateful.
